War of the Four Kings
The War of the Four Kings occurred in the fourth winter of the third age. The food supplies of Valyria had dissipated due to the extended winter. The only thriving population was that of the southern nation of Varos. The kings from the other three regions of Valyria demanded that Varos supply their peoples with the necessary food to keep their population from dying. King Skye III of Varos refused to comply and kept the thriving land and the food it produced away from the rest of the realm.
The selfishness and greed of King Skye III caused an all out war between the four kingdoms of Valyria, battling for the only fertile land in all the realm.
The Church of Khorzha, governing body of Saryn (Capital of Varos), became worried about the magics that were being let loose upon the lands by the sorcerers of the Kings. The lands became spell-scarred, torn and ripped to shreds, unable to be used to farm ever again. The Church erected The Divine Barrier to protect the people of Varos from the war waging outside it’s borders.
